UmActually — Privacy Policy

Effective date: April 28, 2026

UmActually is built so your voice never leaves your iPhone. This page explains exactly what that means.

The short version

• No accounts. No sign-up. No login.
• No analytics, no tracking, no advertising SDKs.
• No audio, no transcripts, and no scores are sent to us or to any third party.
• Speech-to-text runs locally on your device using Whisper.
• Topic generation and relevance grading run locally using Apple Intelligence (Apple's on-device Foundation Models).

Data the app handles

UmActually processes the following on your device while you use it:

• Microphone audio — captured only while a round is recording, transcribed locally by Whisper, and discarded when the round ends. Audio is not saved to disk and not transmitted off the device.
• Transcripts — generated locally from your audio. Used to compute your filler score and to feed Apple's on-device language model for relevance grading. Stored only for the duration of the results screen unless you choose to keep round history.
• Round history (optional) — if enabled, scores, topics, and transcripts are saved locally in the app's sandbox on your iPhone. They are not synced, not backed up to our servers, and not shared. You can delete history at any time from Settings.
• App settings — your filler word list, severity tiers, difficulty, and duration preferences are stored locally on the device.

Data we collect

None. We do not operate a server that receives data from the app. We do not run analytics, crash reporting SDKs, or attribution tools that would phone home with personal information.

If Apple's App Store provides aggregate, anonymous app-level metrics (downloads, crashes reported by users via iOS) we may see those in App Store Connect. Those reports are produced and controlled by Apple and never include your audio, transcripts, or scores.

Apple Intelligence

When the app uses Apple Intelligence to generate a topic or grade relevance, processing happens on your device using Apple's on-device Foundation Models. Apple's own privacy terms apply to that platform feature; we do not receive, log, or store the prompts or completions that pass through it.

Wyoming protocol (optional)

If you choose to point the app at your own self-hosted Wyoming-compatible speech-to-text server, audio for that round will be sent to the server you configured. That destination is under your control. We never operate, see, or proxy that traffic. This setting is off by default.

Third parties

UmActually does not embed third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs. The only network access the app may make is the optional Wyoming server you configure yourself, and standard Apple system services (e.g. App Store receipt validation if applicable).

Children

UmActually is not directed to children under 13. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age, because it does not collect personal information at all.

Your rights

Because we do not collect or store your data, there is nothing for us to export, correct, or delete on your behalf. To remove all locally stored data, delete the app from your device, or use the in-app option to clear round history and settings.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
