Requirements
- iPhone 15 Pro or newer for topic mode (Apple Intelligence required).
- iOS 26 or later.
- Microphone permission.
- Filler-only mode runs on any device that can run on-device Whisper, no Apple Intelligence required.
FAQ
- The app isn't picking up my voice.
- Check Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and confirm UmActually is enabled. If it is, force-quit the app and reopen it. If you use a Bluetooth headset, try the built-in mic to isolate the issue.
- Topic generation is greyed out / unavailable.
- Topic mode uses Apple Intelligence, which requires a supported device (iPhone 15 Pro or newer) running iOS 26 or later, with Apple Intelligence enabled in iOS Settings. On unsupported devices, filler-only mode still works.
- The transcript is missing words or merging them.
- Whisper runs locally and accuracy improves with a quieter environment and a closer mic. Try the higher-quality model in Settings if your device supports it. Heavy accents and rapid speech can also reduce accuracy.
- My filler word isn't being caught.
- Open Settings → Filler words and add it. You can also tune severity per word — the heavier the severity, the more points it costs you.
- The relevance score feels off.
- Relevance grading is done by Apple's on-device language model and is intentionally a single number plus one sentence of feedback. It's a directional signal, not a verdict — treat it as a coach, not a judge. If you think the model is consistently wrong on a topic, send an example to support.
- How do I use my own self-hosted speech-to-text server?
- UmActually supports the Wyoming protocol. In Settings → Speech engine, switch to Wyoming and enter your server's host and port. Audio for that round will then be sent to the server you configured (and only that server).
- Where is my data stored?
- On your iPhone. Nothing leaves the device unless you explicitly enable a self-hosted Wyoming server. See the privacy policy for details.
- How do I delete my data?
- Settings → Round history → Clear history. To wipe everything, delete the app — there is no cloud copy.
- The app crashed.
- Sorry about that. Email moises@martinez.sh with the device, iOS version, app version, and what you were doing. If iOS asked you to share a crash report with the developer, please tap yes — that's the most useful diagnostic.
- Is there an Android version?
- No. UmActually relies on Apple's on-device Whisper integration and Apple Intelligence; an Android port isn't planned.
- Is there a refund policy?
- Purchases and refunds for App Store apps are handled by Apple. Use reportaproblem.apple.com.
