One line

A sun-management game about pushing your luck: cream up, lie down, and earn a tan you can spend — but every hour in the sun is damage you have decided is worth it.

Short description

You have a towel, a bottle and a day. The tan you leave with is your score; the burn you leave with is days off the calendar. Between those two things is the entire game. Thirty beaches, one bottle, and a season that only counts if you come home with your skin intact.

Longer description

Sunscreen is not a button. You spray it where your hand actually is and rub it in, zone by zone, on a body that has eleven of them and cannot see its own back. Getting at it means rolling over while the sun carries on. Cream runs out. Sweat takes it off. The sea takes it off faster.

Then you manage the day. Heat climbs from the moment you lie down. The water cools you and strips your coat. The umbrella shades you and costs you earnings. Cold drinks buy minutes. Push through it and the day ends in an ambulance and three days indoors; read the bar and go home, and you keep everything you earned.

And nothing fails you at the last second. The burn on every zone, the heat, the film left on your skin and how much patience you have left are on screen the whole time. If the day goes wrong you were told, repeatedly, in plain English.

Thirty beaches, each with its own painted horizon, its own weather and its own way of hurting you — a lake in Berlin, the Balneario at Cádiz, the Gold Coast where the ozone gave up, a salt flat at 3,656 m, a beach inside the Arctic Circle. Some are not on the map until you have earned them. A season is 90 days and only counts toward the far beaches if you come out of it with a tan worth having and skin you have not wrecked. Waiting out the calendar is not an achievement.

About the developer

SPFY ME! is made by Moisés Martínez and published by muffler, between Cádiz and Berlin. SPFY ME! grew out of a straightforward observation: everybody knows they should put sunscreen on and almost nobody does it properly, and the reasons why — it takes time, you cannot reach, you would rather be swimming, the damage arrives later than the pleasure — are all the ingredients of a decent management game.

Previous work includes Yakko Tako, Scratchers and Inky Fingers. The full list is on Steam under muffler.
